Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Faculty of Education initiated an applied "Quantitative Data Analysis Training" program given by faculty members for teachers who are receiving graduate and post-graduate education. The scope of the program will include applications for the aspects to take into consideration during the designing process and reporting the obtained data by realizing the appropriate statistical test. In this context, it was announced that the program will include the following principles; the identification of the problem, sampling, the development of appropriate measurement tools, the regulation of the obtained data , the realization of different statistical techniques, the points to take into consideration and the binding rules.
PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC STUDIES OF TEACHERS WILL BE SUPPORTED
Asst. Prof. Ufuk Akbaş, the academic member of Faculty of Education at HKU, gave important information about the program. Akbaş, who made a statement on quantitative data analysis, said that " Experiences and observations show us that beside having a grasp of the theoretical foundations, current developments that are specific to the related field; the presentation of the processes of research methods, data analysis, findings are also quite a significant competence in being able to perform qualified researches. With the permission and support of Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of National Education in the Spring semester of 2016-2017 academic year, we carried out a needs analysis that formed a basis for the preparation of this training program. The data we obtained pointed to the fact that our teachers, especially the ones who continue their graduate program in a city other than the one where they work, needed great support in their work with scientific research methods and quantitative data analysis. Farabi Teacher Academy, which is established at our university, is also focuses on the preparation and conduct of the studies that will contribute to the professional and academic development of our teachers and the evaluation of the results to design better studies. Thanks to this training program, we are excited that we will have the opportunity to both directly support the teachers’ professional and academic developments by contributing their individual studies, and indirectly contribute to the institutional fund of knowledge with the researches that our teachers will conduct and to the solving of the problems that are encountered in practice.” And added that the "TÜBİTAK BİDEB-2229 Support for Scientific Education Activities" program was being applied with the prepared education program and if it is supported, the costs of the participants would be covered by TÜBİTAK.
AVALIBILITY OF THE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION WILL BE LIMITED
While the number of participants is planned to be 30 in the activity, the participants will be designated among the teachers who work in the public or private institutions and it was announced that among those, the ones who are in the graduate or post graduate phase will be given priority.
In the form that is prepared to receive the applications, will include a number of questions that specify the level of competence related to the processes of the usage of statistical package programs in quantitative research, the implementation and reporting of statistical analyzes that are frequently applied in social sciences. It is stated that the answers to these questions will be examined and the researcher indicating that the level of competence is low will be given priority.
It is announced that applied Quantitative Data Analysis Training Program for the teachers who continue the graduate or post-graduate program will be held at the HKU Continuous Education Center on 22-27 January 2017, the application form and detailed information about the program can be accessed from "farabi2229.hku.edu.tr".
