“Awareness of Autism Symposium” held by Special Education Department of Faculty of Education was taken place in HKU Congress and Culture Centre.
Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz, rector of HKU, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Özbay, vice-rector, vice-metropolitan mayor, dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk, academicians, parents and students attended to the Awareness of Autism Symposium.
Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz, the rector of HKU, made an opening speech and said “Autistic Spectrum Disorder is a complicted neuro developmental disorder which is natal and comes up in early life stage. In population as a whole, it is estimated that there are almost 1.142.000 autistic individuals and 4.568.000 family members affected negatively by this situation. Autisim affecting family members may also cause indirect social effects.
As a big family of HKU with its 6000 students and 250 academic members, we carry on scientific studies at a great pace and focus on community life with social responsibility projects, as well.
“Awareness of Autism Symposium” held by Special Education Department of Faculty of Education drew a great deal of attention and the panel organised within the symposium had a big attraction by participants.
Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk was the head of the panel In “Awareness of Autism Symposium”,. Assoc Prof. Dr. Şaziye Senem Başgül addressed “ Family in Identification and Following Process” and Assistant Prof. Latife Özaydın addressed “ Behaviorist and Natural Approach” issues. After the speakers, instructor, Sakine Mert mentioned about the topic “Our Story” and instructor Mehmet Kınıklı talked about the topic called “From Theory to Practice”.
At the second part of the programme, activities and an exhibition by the students of Special Training Application Centre, kermes, “Tour for Awareness of Autism” by Volkwagen clup, Baloon event with the academicians of Faculty of Education and students were carried out.
