Hasan Kalyoncu University, Kalyoncu Technology Transfer Office (KALITTO) reorganized “Hackathon” event in cyber security area which was also organized last year and various projects on “Smart Life” were submitted.
HKU continues to carry out activities in order to enable students to gain different perspectives on their fields, to gain team spirit and time management skills. In this context, “Hackathon – Smart Life Organization” activity was organized by KALITTO in order to provide professional proficiency to the students.
WHAT IS HACKATHON ?
Hackathon, which emerged in the 1990s, is described as a mixture of marathon and hack. This is often described as an event in which computer programmers who are interested in a common topic are competing with other teams to intensively develop software projects on the subject given to them at a given time.
8 SMART LIFE PROJECT HAS BEEN PRODUCED
The participants were asked to look for solutions to the problems they encountered in their daily life, and eight project groups whose activities were intended to produce software technologies in line with these solutions completed and presented their projects after sleepless 50 hours. Among the studies there were various projects that would make life easier, such as mobile application developed for earthquake, a multi-purpose website containing recipes, the project which aims to integrate the developing technology with the education series with VR glasses, the application that reminds the to do list with locations, android app showing empty or full seat in library, the robot project, which controls the pedestrian crossing over traffic lights and warns the drivers. With the produced projects the sensitivity of the participants to daily life has been increased and various projects were put forward which can be applied to every aspect of human life in technological developments that appear in every area.
THE PROJECT THAT AIMS A MORE REALISTIC EDUCATION WITH “VR” RANKED FIRST
The projects and products that emerged at the end of the event were evaluated by a jury consisting of HKU Academicians and experienced people in the sector. As a result of the evaluations, the project that aims a more realistic education with “VR” ranked first. With this project, various 3D displays will be watched in a virtual environment with a kind of glasses called VR glasses. It was stated that, in this way, students have the opportunity to learn the things as if they are real. it is announced that, with this project it is aimed that these trainings, provided with VR, will be more clear and catch.
Participants, most of whom were senior-engineering students, came together with experts from the field and were informed about the challenges and opportunities they would face in professional life. In addition, consultants assigned to each project team informed all groups about what to do before major projects that they would integrate in the future. It was announced by the authorities that all the projects made will be reported and evaluated with the KALITTO team and made into enterprise projects.
