Rector

Born in Istanbul in 1966, Prof. Dr. Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan completed her undergraduate education in the Department of French Language Teaching at the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University. At the same university, she completed her master’s degree in 1993 with a thesis titled “Description fonctionelle d’un idiolecte”, and her doctorate in 1999 in the Public Relations and Publicity Programme of the Institute of Social Sciences with a study titled “A Method Proposal for Analysing Linguistic and Visual Messages in Advertising Images”.

Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan began her academic career in 1990 as a lecturer, and subsequently held the titles of assistant professor, associate professor in Applied Communication in 2003, and professor in 2009. She has held many administrative positions, including head of department, vice dean, dean, senate member and Quality Coordinator.

Serving as a faculty member in the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Communication of Hasan Kalyoncu University since 2018, Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Communication in 2020 and Vice Rector in 2022. Assigned as Acting Rector on 1 July 2025, Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan was appointed Rector of Hasan Kalyoncu University on a permanent basis on 23 July 2026, in accordance with the decision published in the Official Gazette under the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Her fields of expertise include semiotics, advertising communication, brand identity, visual culture, effective communication, media literacy, intercultural communication and persuasive communication. Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan has authored numerous books, book chapters, articles and papers at national and international levels, and her works such as “Reklam Nasıl Çözümlenir?” (How to Analyse Advertising), “Reklamda Kültürlerarasılık” (Interculturality in Advertising) and “Reklam Söylemi” (Advertising Discourse) are regarded as key reference sources in the field.

Küçükerdoğan has supervised many master’s and doctoral theses in the field, and has served as organiser, scientific committee member, referee and invited speaker at numerous scientific events, as well as a reviewer for nationally and internationally indexed journals. She also serves actively on important bodies in the field of communication, as a member and auditor of İLEDAK (Communication Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board), a member of the Executive Board of İLEDAK (Council of Communication Deans) and of İLAD. Küçükerdoğan contributes to TÜBİTAK-supported projects as a project coordinator, panellist and researcher, and serves as an assessor at YÖKAK.
