The ‘From Yesterday to Today in Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Event’ was held at Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU).

Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education, Special Education Application and Research Center (SEARC), Inclusive Student Unit, and Special Education Student Community collaborated to organize the “From Yesterday to Today in Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness Event” aimed at raising awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Moderated by Prof. Dr. Latife Özaydın, faculty member of the Department of Special Education, and featuring speakers such as Prof. Dr. Ümit Şahbaz, Chair of the Department of Special Education at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Dr. Emine Erden, Chair of the Department of Special Education at HKU, and Dr. Merih Toker, faculty member of the Department of Special Education at HKU, the event took place in the HKU Law Amphitheater. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk, Dean of the Faculty of Education, faculty members, and students.

The event covered a wide range of topics, from behavior modification processes for autistic children to studies on theory of mind and language development. Prof. Dr. Ümit Şahbaz presented on “Behavior Modification Process in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” Dr. Merih Toker spoke about “Theory of Mind, Executive Functions, and Language in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” and Dr. Emine Erden discussed “Parent-Mediated Interventions for Autistic Young Children.”

At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk, Dean of the Faculty of Education, presented a gift to Prof. Dr. Ümit Şahbaz, Chair of the Department of Special Education at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.
