As part of the International 34th Council of Communication Faculties Deans (İLDEK) Meeting hosted by Hasan Kalyoncu University, a programme titled “Quality and Accreditation Processes in Faculties of Communication” was held with the participation of Prof Dr Ümit Kocabıçak, President of the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK).
The programme, organised at the HKÜ Cine Amphitheatre, brought together Acting Rector of HKÜ Prof Dr Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan, HKÜ Secretary General Ümit Şahnaoğlu, Chairman of the Board of İLAD Prof Dr Aysel Aziz, deans of communication faculties, academics and students.
Speaking at the event, YÖKAK President Prof Dr Ümit Kocabıçak stated that, as YÖKAK, they aimed to continuously improve the quality assurance system in Turkish higher education. Referring to the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report” published in 2025, Kocabıçak noted that artificial intelligence was driving a significant transformation in working life, professions and educational processes.
“The report highlights that digital and technological competencies, green transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation, a culture of lifelong learning, and human-centred skills must become integral parts of academic curricula,” he said.
Kocabıçak also stressed that universities must continuously update their structures in line with developments in artificial intelligence, digitalisation and sectoral expectations, underlining that quality and accreditation efforts were of great importance for institutional development.
Acting Rector of HKÜ, Prof Dr Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan, emphasised that a culture of quality in higher education was essential for sustainable success. She stated that the university continued its work with an educational approach centred on students, focused on continuous improvement and based on international standards.
During the programme, discussions focused on enhancing the quality of education in communication faculties, monitoring programme outcomes, adopting a student-centred learning approach, stakeholder participation and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. It was emphasised that accreditation processes should not be viewed solely as an evaluation mechanism, but also as a strategic process contributing to the development of faculties.
The programme, held within the framework of the International 34th İLDEK Meeting, provided an important platform for strengthening quality standards in communication faculties, improving the effectiveness of academic processes and promoting a culture of quality assurance in higher education.
