Delivering the opening speech, HKÜ Acting Rector Prof. Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan said the Science Communication Office and Culture House was an important venue that brought together history, culture, art and science communication under one roof. She said: “Universities are not only centres of scientific production, but also centres of culture, art and social memory. Today, we are pleased to present ‘Selections’, an exhibition consisting of recent works by Assoc. Prof. Atiye Güner, Head of our Department of Visual Communication Design, to art lovers. Interpreting the relationships between women, nature, space and people through various techniques, these works powerfully reflect the intellectual and emotional depth of art.”

The works featured in the exhibition explore the relationship between women, nature, space and people from an artistic perspective. Assoc. Prof. Atiye Güner said the “Selections” exhibition consisted of works chosen from her recent solo exhibitions, “Secret Garden” and “Space and Human”. Güner stated that “Secret Garden” focused on the interaction between women and nature, while “Space and Human” addressed the coexistence of space and people. She added that the exhibition, comprising eight works in total, includes oil on canvas, acrylic, collage and mixed-media techniques.

At the end of the programme, Dr Batu Duru, Coordinator of the HKÜ Science Communication Office, provided information about the concept of science communication and the office’s fields of work. Duru said the centre, opened in HKÜ’s historic Gaziantep Culture House, which has witnessed more than a century of history, consists of two exhibition areas, a Communication Museum and the Science Communication Office. He noted that the venue was designed as a multifaceted meeting space bringing together culture, art, history and science communication.
