The HKU Wind Blew at the International Film Festival in the Netherlands!

Students and faculty members from Hasan Kalyoncu University’s (HKU) Faculty of Communication shared their photo and multimedia works depicting the events of the earthquakes that occurred in Gaziantep on February 6th at the ‘Roots & Soil’ exhibition, which was part of the prestigious ‘Movies that Matter’ film festival, organized by one of the world’s foremost photography institutions, the International Center of Photography (ICP), in the city of The Hague, Netherlands. The exhibition featured the works alongside those of Turkish artist Ahmet Polat, who won the award for the youngest photographer at the 22nd Infinity Awards organized by ICP.

Curated by Dr. Batu Duru, the ‘Roots and Soil’ event showcased works by HKU’s Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, along with designer Annejet Brandsma. Prof. Dr. Bülent Bahri Küçükerdoğan, the Chair of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, a jury member of the Movies That Matter Film Festival, Dr. Mehmet Fatih Eminoğlu, faculty member of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, Mehmet Vanlıoğlu, instructor at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, graduate students Fatih Kaya and Nihat Vuran from the Faculty of Communication, and senior student Ruveyda Ebrar Taşçı’s photographs and films were presented to art enthusiasts.

HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli expressed gratitude to all the artists, students, and academics who contributed to the ‘Roots & Soil’ exhibition, representing Gaziantep and Hasan Kalyoncu University successfully at such a significant international art event. He emphasized the university’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to cultural and artistic endeavors, fulfilling its social responsibilities. He congratulated the entire team and everyone who supported the meaningful project that reflected and conveyed the events during and after the earthquakes in Gaziantep through arts, successfully carried out in the Netherlands.
