At Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU), academics who contributed the most to the university’s academic performance in 2023 were honored with awards.
The ‘Academic Awards Ceremony,’ where a total of 241 awards were presented, including certificates of achievement, was held at HKU with the participation of Haluk Kalyoncu, Chairman of the HKU Board of Trustees. The ceremony also recognized academics who received promotions and made significant contributions to the university in 2023.
In his speech at the ceremony, HKU Board of Trustees Chairman Haluk Kalyoncu stated, “Every year, our university implements exemplary projects in various fields, from sports to arts, health to technology. Our academics, who closely follow global and regional developments, contribute with realistic and scientific analyses on various platforms, shedding light on the public’s need for knowledge while commenting on developments in our region. As the Board of Trustees, our fundamental expectation from you, esteemed academics, is to follow and implement international higher education curricula and updates, continuously research evolving digital learning and new scientific approaches, and incorporate these into our education system to benefit our students. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the university’s journey to this point, especially to our former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Cemal Kalyoncu, for his material and moral support since the university’s inception.”
Speaking at the opening, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said: “Since its foundation, the primary goal of our university has been to educate individuals with high academic knowledge and professional skills, who are committed to national values and possess a sense of unity, and to contribute to shaping the future of our country. In 2023, our university ranked 8th out of 200 universities in Turkey in the ‘General Satisfaction’ category according to the Turkey University Satisfaction Survey. Among 74 foundation universities in Turkey, we secured 3rd place. In the area of ‘Campus and Life Fulfillment,’ we were rated as an ‘A+ university’ that meets student expectations at the highest level. Furthermore, according to the ‘2024 Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings,’ our university is ranked in the 1001+ band globally in the ‘Good Health and Well-being’ category, which is among the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Among Turkish foundation universities, we rank 26th, and among all universities in Turkey, we rank 74th. Additionally, for the past two years, our campus has been ranked among the top 250 greenest campuses worldwide by GreenMetric.

Faculty members who made the most significant contributions to Hasan Kalyoncu University’s academic performance through their scientific research were honored with awards at the ceremony.
In this context, awards were presented to academics who:
- Were listed in Stanford University’s “World’s Most Influential Scientists,”
- Achieved the highest academic incentive scores,
- Published the most articles in prestigious indexed journals,
- Received the most citations in reputable indexed journals,
- Had their TÜBİTAK project applications approved,
- Registered national or international patents,
- Attained the highest academic incentive scores,
- Received promotions in academic titles,
- Contributed to Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, UI GreenMetric Green Campus initiatives, and Nutrition and Physical Activity-Friendly working groups, and
- Participated in departments accredited in 2024.
These awards highlighted their outstanding contributions and dedication to advancing academic excellence.
