Born in Istanbul in 1966, Prof. Dr. Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of French Language Teaching at the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University. She received her master’s degree in 1993 with a thesis titled “Description fonctionelle d’un idiolecte”, and her Ph.D. in 1999 from the Institute of Social Sciences at Istanbul University, Public Relations and Publicity Program, with a dissertation titled “A Method Proposal for the Analysis of Linguistic and Visual Messages in Advertising Images.”
Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan began her academic career in 1990 as a lecturer and later became an assistant professor. She was awarded the title of associate professor in Applied Communication in 2003 and full professor in 2009. Throughout her career, she has held several administrative positions including department chair, vice dean, dean, senate member, and quality coordinator.
Since 2018, Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan has been serving as a faculty member in the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Communication, Hasan Kalyoncu University. She was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Communication in 2020, Vice Rector in 2022, and as of July 1, 2025, continues her administrative duties as Acting Rector of Hasan Kalyoncu University.
Her fields of expertise include semiotics, advertising communication, brand identity, visual culture, effective communication, media literacy, intercultural communication, and persuasive communication. Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan has authored numerous books, book chapters, articles, and papers at both national and international levels. Her works such as “How to Analyze Advertising,” “Interculturality in Advertising,” and “Advertising Discourse” are regarded as key reference sources in the field.
She has supervised many master’s and doctoral theses, served as an organizer, scientific committee member, reviewer, and invited speaker at various academic events, and has acted as a reviewer for national and international indexed journals. In addition, she is an active member and auditor of the Communication Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board (İLEDAK), a member of the Executive Board of the Communication Deans Council (İLEDAK), and contributes to other major communication-related bodies such as İLAD. Prof. Dr. Küçükerdoğan has also participated in TÜBİTAK-supported projects as a principal investigator, panelist, and researcher, and serves as an auditor at the Higher Education Quality Council of Türkiye (YÖKAK).
