Lateral Transfer to Equivalent Diploma Programmes at the Same Level

In the Spring Semester of the 2024-2025 Academic Year, students will be admitted to our University’s Associate Degree Programmes by lateral transfer in accordance with the provisions of the “Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programmes in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer”.

*Students enrolled at higher education institutions in the TRNC cannot make a lateral transfer in the Spring Semester under Additional Article 1 (lateral transfer based on central placement score). However, they have the right to lateral transfer between equivalent programmes (vocational schools only) on the basis of their cumulative grade point average (at least 2.29 on a 4.00 scale).

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION

The application will be made online and registration will be carried out in person. Please have the originals of your documents ready at the time of application. The requested documents will be submitted by uploading them to the system as scans (PDF) or as clearly legible photographs.

  • Current student certificate
  • Current approved transcript
  • Current approved curriculum and course contents
  • Current document stating that you have not received a disciplinary penalty
  • Result document for the year of the ÖSYM exam
  • Detailed result document for the year of the ÖSYM exam
  • High School Diploma (e-Devlet)
  • Certificate of success in the preparatory class and/or equivalent foreign language exams

(Note: This document is mandatory for the Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aviation and Space Sciences Engineering, Political Science and International Relations, International Trade and Logistics, and English Language Teaching.)

GENERAL PRINCIPLES AND IMPLEMENTATION RULES

  • Lateral transfer cannot be made into the first semester or the last semester of associate degree diploma programmes.
  • In order to transfer from open and distance education to formal education programmes, the student’s cumulative grade point average in the programme he or she is studying must be 80 or above out of 100, or the central placement score of the year of enrolment must be equal to or higher than the base score of that year for the diploma programme of the university the student wishes to transfer to.
  • Higher education institutions located outside the borders of the Republic of Türkiye will be considered overseas higher education institutions.

INTER-INSTITUTIONAL LATERAL TRANSFER

  • Lateral transfers to our University are made from equivalent diploma programmes at the same level at other higher education institutions.
  • For lateral transfer to our University, the student’s cumulative grade point average for the semesters completed in the diploma programme in which he or she is enrolled must be at least 60 out of 100 (2.29 out of 4).
  • Candidates who cannot meet the achievement requirement in the second paragraph but whose central placement score is equal to or higher than the base score of the diploma programme they wish to transfer to may also apply for lateral transfer.
  • The results of the inter-institutional lateral transfer evaluation, with the names of all candidates with a valid application listed according to the scores used in the evaluation, are announced on our University’s website.
  • Primary and substitute candidates are determined up to the announced quota. Substitute candidates are accepted for registration in place of primary candidates who do not come to register within the registration dates specified in the calendar.

LATERAL TRANSFER TO OUR UNIVERSITY FROM OVERSEAS HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

  • For lateral transfer to our University, the student’s cumulative grade point average for the semesters completed in the diploma programme in which he or she is enrolled must be at least 60 out of 100 (2.29 out of 4.00).
  • Candidates who cannot meet the achievement requirement in the first paragraph but whose central placement score is equal to or higher than the base score of the diploma programme they wish to transfer to may also apply for lateral transfer. The applications of candidates applying in this way are considered if vacant quota remains after the placement of candidates applying under the second paragraph is completed.
  • In lateral transfer from overseas higher education institutions, students who hold the base score for admission to the relevant year of the diploma programme at our University to which they wish to transfer may apply for lateral transfer without any achievement requirement for all courses taken during their higher education abroad. The lateral transfer applications of students applying in this way are evaluated outside the scope of the overseas lateral transfer quota.
  • In applications from overseas universities, it is required that the higher education institution and programme where the student studied abroad be recognised by the Council of Higher Education as an institution authorised to award associate degree diplomas, and that the equivalence of the diploma programme in which the student is enrolled to the associate degree diploma programme to which he or she applies for lateral transfer at our University be accepted by the relevant unit.
  • The minimum scores in the Student Selection and Placement Exams conducted by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM), to be used in evaluating the transfer applications of students who started higher education abroad to higher education programmes in Türkiye, together with the exams accepted as equivalent and their scores, are announced by the Council of Higher Education along with the overseas lateral transfer quotas determined by the universities. Candidates must hold at least the announced scores, or higher, in order to apply for lateral transfer.
  • (Added: Official Gazette-18/3/2016-29657) In lateral transfer from overseas higher education institutions, the number of students who may transfer into each year of a programme from the same overseas higher education institution cannot exceed 15 per cent of the overseas quota of the relevant year of that programme. In calculating 15 per cent, numbers below 1 are rounded up to 1. If the part after the decimal point is less than 5, it is rounded down to the lower whole number; if it is 5 or above, it is rounded up to the next whole number.

EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS

  • Applications will be evaluated by the board of the relevant units.
  • Accepted applications will be announced at www.hku.edu.tr.
