Activities continue in the development of autonomous (driverless) vehicle software and technologies, carried out under the tripartite cooperation protocol signed by Kalyon Solar Energy Technologies Inc. (Kalyon PV), Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) and Bilişim Vadisi. In this context, Autonomous Vehicle Instructor Necati Samet Çelik gave two days of hands-on training on developing autonomous vehicle software and technologies to the teams formed by HKU students, and to academic staff, who will take part in the “Robotaxi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle” competition, one of the most important competitions within TEKNOFEST.
The students who attended the training and gained experience in autonomous vehicle software and technologies said that their goal in this year’s competitions is to finish in the top 3.
THE NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY MOVE IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR OUR COUNTRY’S FUTURE
Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, noting that HKU will also host autonomous vehicle races on a special track planned to be built on campus in the near future, said, “As Hasan Kalyoncu University, we attach importance to, and support, R&D work on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, which are regarded as the technology of the future. We would like our students to have a place and a role in this process. Our teams preparing for TEKNOFEST in the Robotaxi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle category are trying to develop software to solve the existing problems in autonomous driving systems. Our students and academics are continuing their work without slowing down, with great eagerness and motivation, in order to contribute to the National Technology Move processes that are so important for the future of our country.”
WE WILL MENTOR OUR STUDENTS
Autonomous Vehicle Instructor Necati Samet Çelik, stating that the first day of the autonomous vehicle software and technologies training was theoretical and the second day was practical, said, “We gave the students who will take part in the competition the basic and theoretical knowledge of the autonomous vehicle. We introduced our students to the components with which they can control this vehicle. We also showed how the information we explained is applied in practice. By the end of the training, we will enable the students who will take part in the competition to control the autonomous vehicle entirely from their own computers. This will be our first step. In the coming days, as our students get used to this vehicle, we will move on to the other stages. Before the TEKNOFEST competition, our students will have learned how to move and control the vehicle. In the preparation period before the competition, they will know the vehicle completely, be able to control it and have worked focusing all their energy on autonomy. We will be mentors to our students.”
