Participants who created one-of-a-kind designs at the “Chocolate Workshop” organised by the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts of Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) turned chocolate into art.
At the workshop, led by chocolate artist Alina Luchkova, who came to Gaziantep within the scope of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project implemented by KALİTTO (Kalyoncu Innovation and Technology Transfer Office) with the support of the Turkish National Agency, academic staff, students and volunteers used different designs and techniques to produce delicious and distinctive chocolates, each of which could be described as a work of art.
Watching part of the event with interest, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said: “This workshop, organised by our Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, has pioneered intercultural knowledge sharing and also brought the artistic side of gastronomy to the fore. At HKU, we approach the culinary arts from a scientific perspective. We have previously held events and workshops on molecular gastronomy and similar topics. Today, the focus was on chocolate, one of the flavours many of us love. Our valued guest from Ukraine, chocolate artist Alina Luchkova, showed that chocolate is not merely a food product but can be turned into a work of art, and that its added value can be increased in this way.”
The delicious chocolates produced by the participants at the workshop were served to university staff at HKU’s traditional holiday greeting event.
