The topic of the final of the inter-faculty Debate Tournament, which the Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Strategic Thinking and Debate Student Society has made a tradition and organised for the third time this year, was “Should Cryptocurrencies Be Legalised or Not?”

In this year’s final of the tournament, held every year to increase strategic thinking capacity, to give the ability to evaluate current issues in a multidimensional framework by structuring and justifying ideas well, to develop critical analysis skills by focusing on the analysis of the critical factors and variables of success, and to strengthen the culture of debate, students of the Faculty of Communication and the Faculty of Health Sciences competed fiercely to refute each other’s theses and demonstrate the soundness of their own ideas. The winner of the debate, which witnessed great rivalry and was watched with pleasure, was the team of Faculty of Communication students defending the thesis “Cryptocurrencies should be legalised”.

WE LOOK TO THE FUTURE WITH HOPE AND PRIDE

HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, stating that Haluk Kalyoncu, Acting Chairman of the HKU Board of Trustees, congratulated the Strategic Thinking and Debate Student Society and the winning team of the final for their successful work in spreading critical thinking, said: “We watched a wonderful and very high-quality debate. The picture we see here today, this debate held by you, our young people, makes us look to the future with hope and pride. It is admirable that you analysed in depth, in the best way, a subject given to you only twenty hours ago and with which you were not very familiar, and that you could defend it like an expert. We are proud of you and give you a standing ovation.”

The jury members of the debate, held at the HKU Congress and Culture Centre, were Dr. Veysel Görücü, Faculty Member at the HKU Faculty of Law; Dr. Yıldız Özkök, Faculty Member at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences; and Hatice Meltem Nergis Şirin, Research Assistant at the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
