PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLORS ARE A QUALIFIED PROTECTIVE FACTOR

HKU Dean of Students and faculty member in the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counselling at the Faculty of Education, Dr. Özgür Osman Demir, said: “The wounds of the earthquake region continue to heal. Both our teachers and our students have overcome an important period in their education and teaching lives following the earthquake that took place in this region. Alongside this, there will inevitably be some risks and challenging conditions in the school environment. But what matters is to focus on protective factors rather than on the challenging conditions. These protective factors may be situations within an individual’s own inner world and potential, or they may stem externally from the family or society. While having hope is an individual protective factor, sitting down together at the table every evening as a routine is a family protective factor. From this perspective, teachers, and especially the psychological counsellors in schools, are a qualified protective factor for students.”

After the presentation of the plaque, a workshop was held under the leadership of HKU Dean of Students Dr. Özgür Osman Demir.
