Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) is preparing to contribute to the international promotion of Gaziantep with “Gurme Run”, Türkiye’s first gastronomy-themed half marathon. The event, to be held on 14 September 2025 with HKU as lead partner and in cooperation with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, aims to make the city’s strength in gastronomy and sports tourism visible internationally.
Gurme Run: Where Sport and Flavour Meet
Gurme Run stands out with different running categories that aim to bring together sports lovers of all ages. As part of Gurme Run, a free Kids Run for children will be held on 13 September, and 5K, 10K, 21K (half marathon) and 21K Relay (three-person team run) categories on 14 September.
Along the race route, participants will have a unique experience with local flavour stops, cultural heritage points and entertainment areas with music. Thanks to the local products and the gastronomy guide to be offered in the race kits, the unique tastes of Gaziantep cuisine will be discovered and promoted.
Acting Rector Küçükerdoğan: “Gurme Run Is a Unique Opportunity for Promotion”
Emphasising that the event is of great importance for the promotion of the city and the development of students, HKU Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan said: “As Hasan Kalyoncu University, we care not only about our students’ academic achievements but also about their social, cultural and sporting development. In this context, the ‘Gurme Run’ Half Marathon, of which we are a partner, offers a unique opportunity to introduce Gaziantep’s UNESCO-registered cuisine, cultural heritage and hospitality to the whole world. Taking part in this important organisation and being its partner has a further special significance for us. Throughout the event, our volunteer students will take on duties in various areas; with the support of the faculty members of our Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, our students will provide health support to athletes, thereby both contributing to society and gaining valuable experience in the field.”
HKU Students at Gurme Run
HKU is taking an active role in the event with its 50 volunteer students. Students of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation will provide recovery support to athletes at the finish area and will have the opportunity to develop their professional knowledge and skills in practice. This participation is regarded as an important indication of HKU’s vision of a university that integrates with the city and contributes to society.
