At the award-winning IDEATHON organised by the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce (GTO) Gaziantep Industrial Design and Hybrid Modelling Centre (GETHAM) under the slogan “Design the Shoe of Your City”, two teams made up of students from the Radio, Television, Cinema and Visual Communication Design department of the Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Faculty of Communication succeeded in ranking among the winners.
In the competition, in which 18 teams from Gaziantep and different provinces took part, 2 teams from the HKU Faculty of Communication participated. In the competition, the HKU students reflected traditional motifs specific to Gaziantep and lines reflecting the brand city in their designs, and won the third and fifth place awards. The two teams that succeeded in ranking among the winners gained the opportunity to open a stand at the GETHAM booth at the shoe fair, with mentoring and prototype support from GETHAM.
Congratulating the students on their achievements, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said, “Two different teams made up of students from the HKU Faculty of Communication Radio, Television, Cinema and Visual Communication Design department tried to develop designs reflecting our city’s culture in the ‘Design the Shoe of Your City’ competition. They placed among the winners. At a time when the focus is on production and employment, I congratulate the students who ranked among the winners, as well as the institutions that organised and contributed to this competition held in our city. As HKU, we will continue to support efforts and competitions aimed at developing new ideas, designs and value-added products.”
