At the 1st Eco-Debate event organised by the Economy and Society Student Society of Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU), which accepts members from all other departments as well as students of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences (FEASS), the topic “Which Policy Should Be Used in Periods of Economic Crisis?” was discussed. The statements and presentations of the two groups, who advocated the use of fiscal and monetary policies respectively, earned full marks from the academics of the FEASS Department of Economics.
STUDENTS SHOULD EXPERIENCE DEBATE
Evaluating the debate, Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said, “We are making great efforts to ensure that debate culture, which improves learning skills, speed and quality, is applied systematically and becomes widespread at our university. Our Strategic Thinking and Debate Student Society appeals to all our students. It organises tournaments every year and they attract great interest. In addition, every unit, every society, even every instructor can organise and use debates in their own subjects and courses. I think it will be very useful. We want our students to learn to collaborate on debate platforms, work within a team, think critically, conduct research and develop arguments, and to experience ‘peer learning’.”
At the end of the debate, Rector Dereli congratulated the jury member instructors and the students individually, and presented the winning group with a book.
