Competition Specification

Purpose of the competition

Article 1:The competition is organised to commemorate Mehmet Akif Ersoy on the 86th anniversary of his passing, to make young people love his poems, to enable our young people to embrace and internalise national and spiritual values such as homeland, nation, flag, independence and martyrdom, and to instil literary awareness.

Subject of the competition

Article 2:In order to keep the dear memory of Mehmet Akif Ersoy alive at all times, a poetry competition titled “Reciting Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s Poems Well” has been organised among Hasan Kalyoncu University students.

Scope of the competition

Article 3:This specification covers the procedures and principles concerning the participants of the competition whose purpose and subject are stated above, the method of application, the evaluation to be carried out, the awards and award ceremony, and the competition calendar.

Participants

Article 4 Hasan Kalyoncu University students will take part in the competition.

Conditions of participation

Article 5 .

86. a) The competition has the theme “The Poems of Mehmet Akif Ersoy and Commemorating the 86th Anniversary of Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s Passing”.

b) Participation in the competition is free of charge.

1. c) Applications to the competition can only be made via WeTransfer. After uploading the file to WeTransfer, the address bilir@hku.edu.tr must be added in the recipient field. ( https://wetransfer.com/ )
2. d) Each contestant has the right to enter the competition once (1), with 1 video.

e) The decision of the selection committee that will evaluate the competition is accepted.

1. f) Participants take part with their own information and video; if participation on behalf of someone else is detected, the entry will be disqualified.
2. g) The application deadline for the competition is 23:59 on Friday, 11 February 2022, and applications made after the deadline will not be considered.
3. h) All videos submitted to the competition may be used by Hasan Kalyoncu University wherever it wishes (non-commercial). The rights to disseminate, reproduce, represent and communicate the videos to the public by signs and audiovisual means, including digital communication, arising from the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, belong to Hasan Kalyoncu University without limitation, and the contestants shall not claim any copyright from this. The copyright of all videos entered in the competition shall be deemed to have been transferred to Hasan Kalyoncu University with the contestant’s express consent. All rights to adapt the videos in any way shall belong to Hasan Kalyoncu University. Apart from the award, the participant may not claim any copyright. All responsibilities arising from the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works concerning the videos submitted to the competition belong to the participant. The videos of all participants in the competition will be shared on the University’s official website and social media accounts.

i) The institution is not responsible for any technical problem in the submitted video.

1. i) All contestants taking part in the competition are deemed to have accepted all the articles in this specification.
   j) The videos of the persons taking part in the competition must not have previously won an award, and must not have been altered with any programme.

Application

Article 6 The works entered in the competition will be evaluated by a commission to be formed within Hasan Kalyoncu University.

Procedures to be carried out

Article 7 The procedures will be carried out at the Hasan Kalyoncu University Faculty of Education.

• The necessary announcement will be made throughout the University in line with the competition calendar.
• The videos received will be evaluated by the commission formed.
• As a result of the commission’s evaluations, the top three contestants across the University will be determined.

Awards and award ceremony

Article 8 The awards of the students who place in the competition will be presented at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy commemoration ceremony.

The names of the students who place in the competition will be announced on the Hasan Kalyoncu University website.

Other Matters

Article 10 The works entered in the competition;

The poems entered in the competition will be evaluated by commissions made up of at least five faculty members, taking into account the conditions in Article 5 of the specification. The members of the selection committee will elect a chair among themselves and rank the works within the framework of the evaluation criteria.

Article 11. Competition Rules

1. Contestants must know their chosen poem completely and by heart, and during the competitions the jury may hold contestants responsible for any stanza or stanzas it wishes.
2. The top 10 contestants must be present in the competition hall at least 30 minutes before the start time of the competition. A contestant who arrives after the competition time will be considered eliminated.
3. To strengthen the stage performance, the participating student may prepare and stage a performance with other students (theatrical performance, video-supported narration, background music, etc.).
4. The contestant must use a maximum of 10 minutes to recite the poem, including set preparations and theatrical performance. Exceeding the time will result in loss of points.
5. When evaluating contestants, the jury will score on stage presence, dramatisation, pronunciation, emphasis and intonation, and conveying emotion.
6. During the competitions, the final decision belongs to the jury panel.
7. Relatives of the contestants may attend the competition hall to watch the competition.
