Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) ‘Oyunlarla Yaşayanlar Theatre Society’ staged the world classic “The Miser”. Written by Molière in the 17th century and translated by Sabahattin Eyüboğlu, “The Miser” was directed by Enes Küçük, Honorary President of the Oyunlarla Yaşayanlar Theatre Society, and was performed at the HKU Congress and Culture Centre to theatre lovers who filled the hall completely. The two-act play, which lasted about three hours, was highly acclaimed for its colourful costumes and stage design as well as the performance of the actors.

RECTOR DERELİ SURPRISES IN THE PLAY

HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli surprised and delighted the audience by joining the play through improvisation in its final scene, and received applause for his performance. Greeting the audience after the play, Dereli said, “If you do culture, art, science and sports in the best way and support them, the rest comes by itself, and the halls fill up. Our Oyunlarla Yaşayanlar Theatre Society is the pride of this school. Even last year, in the period when the pandemic was at its most intense, they staged the play “Lüküs Hayat” in this hall perfectly. Today, they again performed “The Miser” wonderfully, and I thank them.”

WE ARE NOT PERFECT AS INDIVIDUALS, BUT WE ARE PERFECT WHEN WE COME TOGETHER

Enes Küçük, Honorary President of the HKU ‘Oyunlarla Yaşayanlar Theatre Society’ and director of the play, said, “We were all together here at iftar and at sahur. During the exam period, with rehearsals on one side and our study notes on the other, we prepared for this play. A great many people have contributed here. We have been a family since the day we were founded. We are not perfect as individuals, but we are perfect when we come together.”

At the end of the play, which the audience applauded with a standing ovation, Society Board Member Gaye Yılmazkaya was presented with a plaque by HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli in recognition of her devoted work.
