Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) held the “Orientation 2022 – Introduction to University Life Course”, a roadmap for students newly enrolled for the 2022-2023 academic year. At the event, held at the Performing and Fine Arts Centre with a seating capacity of 3,000, nearly 1,500 students took their first steps into university life. Aimed at easing adaptation to the university, the event allowed students to start the new term highly motivated.
“THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY AND THE WORLD IS ENTRUSTED TO YOU, THE YOUNG”
The programme began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. In the opening speech, the Rector of Hasan Kalyoncu University, Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, advised the students:
“Welcome to your university and to your new life. Today you are stepping into University Life, where you will shape your future, fill your mind with knowledge and your heart with love, loyalty and friendship, and which you will never forget throughout your life. In this most important stage of your education, you will not only gain a profession but also increase your knowledge and culture in every field and broaden your horizons. As Hasan Kalyoncu University, I would like you to know how excited and proud we are to be your guide on this meaningful journey. The future of our country, and even of the world, is entrusted to you, the young. We are confident that you will fulfil this responsibility you have undertaken in the best possible way.”

Speaking at the opening of Orientation 2022 and the Introduction to University Life Programme, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees Haluk Kalyoncu said:
“Looking at the 2022 “Overall Satisfaction” results of the Turkey University Satisfaction Survey (TÜMA), we rose from 17th to 13th place among 199 universities compared with the previous year, and from 15th to 9th place among 73 foundation universities. This year again, while examining our minimum and maximum admission scores, I noticed your successful results. Seeing that we have nearly 200 students who ranked in the top 10 thousand and more than 300 who ranked in the top 50 thousand, I felt proud on behalf of our university, and with your hard work you have given us hope for the future of our country; I congratulate you wholeheartedly. As Cemil Meriç mentions in his book Bu Ülke, you should grow up as virtuous generations with a sense of history, a sense of personality and a sense of nationhood, and it is our duty and our most important wish that you become a source of pride for your country, your community and your family by upholding your moral values alongside your success. I wish the 2022-2023 academic year to be a blessed one and wish you all success. Welcome to your university.”
A MINI REHEARSAL FOR UNIVERSITY LIFE
In the 3-day “INT 100 Introduction to University Life” course, which is full of content and designed to ease adaptation so that students can adjust easily to the 2022-2023 Academic Year, seminars were given on the following topics: Prof. Dr. Oğuz Babüroğlu ‘A Paradigm Shift in Higher Education’, Prof. Dr. Tamer Yılmaz ‘Innovative Leadership’, Hakkı Alkan ‘Digital Siege’, Prof. Dr. Sezgin Bakıdere ‘Chemistry in Our Lives’, Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu ‘Being a University Student for a Successful Career’ and Merve Dikici ‘New Trends in the Career Journey’. The programme also included a campus tour and presentations of the faculties and departments, as well as the university’s social, cultural and physical facilities.
