The Game Jam event “Ramajam”, organised during Ramadan by the Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Digital Game Design Society and the Department of Digital Game Design, and known as a type of hackathon in the field of game development, took place with the participation of 65 game developers.
After three days of training, Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı announced the theme of Ramajam as ‘Space’ on 7 March. At the HKU Digital Game Laboratory (DijiLab), one of Turkey’s first and most ambitious digital game laboratories, the game developers had the opportunity to bring their games to life with the technical infrastructure and academic support provided. The event, in which 18 teams took part, ended on 14 March with a closing and award ceremony also attended by HKU Board of Trustees Chair Haluk Kalyoncu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Haluk Kalyoncu said: “The gaming industry is growing rapidly on a global scale. As HKU, we will do our part to increase Turkey’s potential in this field and to support young people.”
HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli said: “Ramajam supports game developers by building a bridge between academia and the industry. I thank everyone who contributed to the organisation.”
