The Simulation-Supported Teacher Education Workshop was held by the Faculty of Education of Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU). The workshop, held online and aiming to develop the professional skills of teachers and prospective teachers, attracted great interest from educators.
The opening speeches of the workshop, in which an example TÜBİTAK 1002 project experience was shared with the participating educators, were delivered by HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, Gazi University Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, HKU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk and Gazi University Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi.
“THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES IS INCREASING”
In his opening speech, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli emphasised the importance of the effective use of artificial intelligence and digitalisation in educational processes: “The effectiveness of digital technologies in educational processes is increasing. This increase enables us to respond to the needs of our age more agilely. In this context, strengthening the capacity of our teachers, who raise the children who will build our future, to use digital technologies effectively is of great importance. This project carried out by our faculty members and its results will set an example for the entire education community and contribute both nationally and internationally.”
“TEACHERS NEED TO DEVELOP THEMSELVES IN LINE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE AGE”
Gazi University Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, in his speech, emphasised that teachers must train and develop themselves in line with the requirements of the age. Underlining that practical support must be provided alongside theory for teacher skills to develop as desired, Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said that the limited opportunities for teachers, practice and peer solidarity, together with teachers having to achieve their professional development through a single classroom and student profile, lead to limitations. Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız stated that, for these reasons, virtual applications such as simulation should be used in teacher education.
EDUCATORS EXAMINED SIMULATION-BASED TRAINING CLOSELY
Following the opening speeches, at the workshop Asst. Prof. Dr. Özge Kelleci Alkan gave information about the studies carried out within the scope of the TÜBİTAK-supported project Use of Virtual Classroom Simulations in Teacher Training. Afterwards, under the moderation of Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri Can Aksoy, the session “Experience Sharing in the Simulation-Supported Teacher Education Process” and other sessions were held by faculty members, practice teachers and prospective teachers from both universities.
