The “Workshop and Panel on the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Energy”, organised by the TÜBA Energy Working Group and hosted by Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University, will be held on 3-4 June 2022 at the Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University Congress and Culture Centre.

The TÜBA Energy Working Group, which aims to produce knowledge and develop science and technology by carrying out work on the scientific and technological subjects that Türkiye needs in the field of energy, to help in strategy and policy development, and to draw up roadmaps and propose solutions to problems, is now putting the subjects of “energy and artificial intelligence” on the table. Academics conducting scientific studies on energy applications of artificial intelligence, as well as senior experts from the public and private sectors, have been invited to the event.

The symposium will evaluate what needs to be done in the process of determining Türkiye’s artificial intelligence policies with regard to energy applications, together with related recommendations. A workshop report will be prepared in line with the solutions, roadmaps, ideas and recommendations that the relevant experts put forward from technological and scientific perspectives, and will be presented for the benefit of the public.

The symposium programme will begin with speeches by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Dinçer, Coordinator of the TÜBA Energy Working Group; Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, Rector of Hasan Kalyoncu University; Haluk Kalyoncu, Deputy Chair of the Hasan Kalyoncu University Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, President of TÜBA; Dr. Alparslan Bayraktar, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye; and Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye.

At the symposium, four sessions will be held under the headings Studies in Public Institutions, Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Public and Private Sector Applications, and Academic and Commercial Applications, with a total of 18 presentations by scientists, ranging from Artificial Intelligence from the Perspective of Energy Markets to Deep Learning: Mobile Microscopes and Applications. After the sessions, a panel titled “Artificial Intelligence in Energy: Challenges and Opportunities” will be held, moderated by Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, TÜBA Principal Member and member of the TÜBA Energy Working Group.
