TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute Director Assoc. Dr., Burcu Özsoy moderated the online program, to the program attended Hasan Kalyoncu University Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, HKU Engineering Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hanifi Çanakçı and Dr. Lecturer Member Adem Yurtsever.
UNIVERSITIES SHOULD MAKE A SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTION TO POLE RESEARCH WITH R&D STUDIES
In the program; Referring to the importance of science bases at the poles, Dr. Burcu Özsoy also gave information about the R&D and scientific research carried out by TÜBİTAK in the polar regions. Stating that it is very important for universities to take part in international arenas in polar region research with their projects, Özsoy stated that they can carry out joint projects with universities that conduct R&D studies in the field of polar sciences.
POLE STUDIES CAN BRING COUNTRIES TO ONE UPPER LEAGUE
HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Türkay Dereli, on the other hand, emphasized that polar research is closely related to all science disciplines and said that these studies can carry countries to the next league. Dereli: “TÜBİTAK’s national and international works carry our country forward in every sense. As HKU, we want to contribute to the scientific power of TUBITAK and our country with our R&D and scientific studies. In the past, we were neither at the table nor on the field in terms of poles. With the works carried out in recent years and supported by HKU, we are now both on the field and on the table at the poles. Our fellow citizen from Gaziantep and a graduate of Gaziantep High School, Assoc. Dr. Burcu Özsoy is leading in this regard, and we are proud of her”.
Hasan Kalyoncu University Engineering Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hanifi Çanakçı and Dr. Lecturer Adem Yurtsever stated that they are preparing EU projects on climate change and stated that they want to develop a project related to polar sciences and that they are working on it.
SEA WATER CAN BE USED AS AN ALTERNATIVE
In the program; Answering the questions about the melting of polar glaciers, Assoc. Dr. Burcu Özsoy: “Due to the melting of the poles, pieces of melted ice are falling into the sea. “When this is the case, considering the drought and global climate change, converting seawater to drinking water in treatment plants is considered as an alternative.”
