The 1st International Game Congress was Held at HKU. HKU hosted the 1st International Game Congress (Gameconference’19) organized by Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) and Vizetek Publishing House. In the congress held in coop eration with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of National Education, Şahinbey Municipality, Kalyoncu Gifted Center and Gaziantep Game and Toy Museum; Different disciplines came together with the theme of play, toy and gamification.
The congress, which was held for the first time in the international arena and emphasized the importance of games, toys and gamification in educational processes; Gaziantep Provincial Education Director Cengiz Mete and representatives of the toy museum, academics from different disciplines, expert speakers of their field, teachers and students participated at the event.
GAME ANYWHERE FOR ANYONE
The opening speeches of the congress, which was held at HKU Congress and Culture Center (KKM) and with the motto “Game for Everyone Everywhere”, were given by Gaziantep Provincial Director of National Education Cengiz Mete, HKU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Özbay, Chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee and Dean of HKU Education Faculty Prof. Dr. Şener Büyüköztürk. The most important names in Turkey attend the Congress expert guests from different countries also attended.
“A NEW METHOD IN EDUCATION: LEARNING BY PLAYING”
Emphasizing the importance of gamification in education, Gaziantep Provincial Director of National Education Cengiz Mete said: “Gaziantep is a city where firsts are experienced. Today we are experiencing a first. 443 of our teachers from National Education registered to the congress. The importance of this is; This is because our teachers, who are practicing one-on-one in the field, realize how important this job is. The use of learning by gamification techniques is important in terms of showing that new methods, apart from classical learning methods, have to be the subject of education. We care about new techniques about learning and we see the benefits of this. Related techniques for storytelling, drama, learning from play. A CONGRESS WITH A LOT OF GAMES
Stating that games, gamification and entertainment are one of the basic needs of human beings, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Özbay: “It is a good job to have a congress on this subject. We will be able to find the question of how we should create our playgrounds in these four days. In the background, I observed how the work was done. There is a very serious effort. We see that such a good work has emerged together with all stakeholders. I wish it to be a successful, productive and playful congress. I thank all those who contributed,”he said.
