Founded in 2008 as the first foundation university in Gaziantep and the wider region, Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) continues to expand and enhance its academic programmes in line with the evolving needs of the modern era. Distinguished by its strong commitment to education, teaching and research, HKU has launched the region’s first and only undergraduate programme in Industrial Design within its Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture.
Stating that the newly established Department of Industrial Design represents an important reflection of HKU’s education vision centred on production, design, technology and innovation, HKU Rector Professor Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan said:
“Gaziantep is one of Türkiye’s leading cities, distinguished by its strong industrial base, entrepreneurial spirit, production culture and design potential. As a university located in such a dynamic city, we have a responsibility to educate and train the highly qualified human resources required by both our region and our country. Through the Department of Industrial Design established within our Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, we aim to educate our students not only as individuals with a strong aesthetic perspective, but also as designers who understand production processes, think from a user-centred perspective and develop innovative and sustainable solutions.”
Emphasising that HKU attaches great importance to preparing its students not only for today’s professions but also for the rapidly changing fields of employment of the future, Rector Professor Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan continued:
“Students studying in the Department of Industrial Design will have the opportunity to pursue careers across a wide range of fields, including product design, furniture design, packaging design, user experience, digital design, the automotive industry, household appliances, medical products, the defence industry, technology companies and research and development centres.
“The department will provide students with a strong foundation in design thinking, problem-solving, production technologies, materials science, sustainable design and innovative product development. We believe that this newly established department will make a significant contribution to our university, to Gaziantep’s production and design ecosystem, and to meeting Türkiye’s need for highly qualified designers. I wish our new students every success and warmly welcome them to the HKU family.”
As the first and only Industrial Design Department in the region, the programme will bring together some of the most prominent fields of the modern era, including design, production, technology, artificial intelligence, sustainability and user experience. It will offer students the opportunity to transform their ideas into products and their talents into future careers.
