HKU Hosted the World’s Largest Game Marathon

Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Zeugma Game Technologies and Gamification Center (ZOOM) carried out an extraordinary event. The Global Game Jam (GGJ), which started all over the world at the same time, was hosted by HKU for the first time this year with the cooperation of seven universities.

THIS TIME “REPAIR” WAS THE THEME OF THE GGJ

Thousands of games are developed every year with Global Game Jam, the world’s largest and most comprehensive game development marathon. In Turkey; Hosting the Gaziantep stand of the GGJ, which took place in Gaziantep after Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, HKU aims to pave the way for technology productivity in the gaming industry.

The theme of GGJ, which has been hosted by Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University since 2018, was “Repair”. Game developers came together and developed various games according to the determined theme.

80 PEOPLE, 16 TEAMS, 12 GAMES

Global Game Jam, which is open to participants from different fields with different expertise, from professional game developers to educators, from artists to game designers, and from all kinds of experience levels, started with the “Game Art Panel”. In the event, which is accompanied by expert mentors in the field, where creativity, solidarity and cooperation come to the fore; 12 games were produced by 16 teams of 80 people. In the event, where a few games that professional people make and use in their business life were shown practically, the participants learned how to develop their competencies.

Game developers made presentations of games produced at the end of 48 hours without sleep. Attending the presentation program, HKU Rector Prof. Dr. Edibe Sözen said that the number of participants was high this year and 12 plays were produced at the end of the event. Congratulating the game developers one by one, Sözen took photos with all participants at the end of the program.
