Gaziantep 1. Newborn days were organized by Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) School of Health Sciences Nursing Department and Gaziantep State Hospitals Union General Secretariat.
Ministry of Health, Health services Secretary General Hayati Deniz, HKU Vice rector Prof. Dr. M. Hanifi Aslan, Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Department of Child Health and Illnesses Chair Prof. Dr. Ercan Sivaslı, HKU Institute of Health Sciences Director Ayla Yava, HKU School of Health Sciences Nursing Department Chair Tulay Ortabag and many academics, nurses and health workers attended Gaziantep 1. Newborn days held in Sehitkamil Congress and Culture Center.
The opening speeches of the ceremony were performed by Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumus, Prof. Dr. Ercan Sivaslı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tulay Ortabag, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hayati Deniz. In his speech, Ortabag stated that majority of the deaths of babies take place in the first 28 days of life during newborn period. In order that newborn babies live, broadening intensive care services and training personnel are of great importance. The indispensable part in newborn intensive care is refining nurses and their education, which contributes mortality and morbidity positively. Newborn intensive care not only supports the survival of baby but also ensures the development of the baby as well.
In the first day of the program, the topic of “developmental care in newborn intensive care unit” was discussed in three sessions. Initially, in the panel, whose chair was Prof. Dr. Nurullah Okumus and Prof. Dr. Ercan Sivaslı, the topics of newborn chronic lung illness and clinic method, (Non-Invasive Ventilation, Preterm Retinopathy) were told.
In the second session, the topics of newborn evaluation, refining environment in newborn units and quality sleep in newborn intensive care were told by academics. In the last session, whose chairs were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tulay Ortabag and Assist. Prof. Dr. Feride Yigit, position management in intensive care units, pain management in newborn intensive care and kangaroo management in newborn intensive care units were discussed.
In the second day of the program, innovations in newborn resuscitation and newborn screening were mentioned. In Preterm nutrition panel, detailed information was given about enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition.
After the scientific program, the program continued with social activities. Participation certificates and appreciation certificates to the organizing committee were given by Gaziantep State Hospitals Union Secretary General Hayati Deniz and other guests at the end of the program. The program ended with taking photos all together. It was stated by the officials that the program which got a great deal of attention will be organized every year.
