The Past, Present and Future of Psychological Counselling and Guidance Discussed at Hasan Kalyoncu University

The programme titled “The Past, Present and Future of Psychological Counselling and Guidance: A Path from Accumulation to the Future” was held at Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Congress and Culture Centre, organised by the HKU Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance (PCG) and the PCG Student Society, with the support of the University Student Societies Cooperation and Support Programme (ÜNİDES).

The event, which addressed the development of psychological counselling and guidance from past to present, current approaches in the field and transformation processes for the future, hosted Prof. Dr. Feride Bacanlı, Prof. Dr. Tayfun Doğan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ömer Özer as speakers.

Delivering the opening speech, HKU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Latife Özaydın drew attention to today’s rapidly changing social conditions and said: “In light of digitalisation, disasters and the changes taking place in our region, you will have the opportunity to reconsider the responsibilities undertaken by psychological counsellors through seminars and workshops delivered with the contributions of our esteemed academics. I believe the programme will make significant contributions.”

HKU Head of the Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ayaz stated that the field has a strong background and said: “Our past is very strong. Today, we continue to carry out highly valuable work and strive to make it more visible. Here today, we will see what awaits us in the future and evaluate all these processes together. The school attacks that took place last month once again showed how valuable our profession is and how important it is for us to constantly update and improve ourselves. I believe this programme will contribute to these processes.”

Held with the contributions of expert academics in the field, the programme shared with students the theoretical background of the PCG discipline, its areas of practice, professional development processes and future directions.

Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the programme contributed to enhancing students’ professional awareness and creating a platform for discussion aimed at carrying the academic knowledge in the field of PCG into the future.
