Hasan Kalyoncu University Provides AI Support for Goalkeeper Performance

Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) is carrying out an important project in the field of sports technologies. Supported under the TÜBİTAK 1005 – National New Ideas and Products Research Support Programme, the project entitled “Development of a Single-Camera Sensor-Free Goalkeeper Performance Analysis System” aims to analyse the training performance of young goalkeepers through artificial intelligence-based systems.

The project, led by HKU, is being carried out in collaboration with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality. Dr Erkan Kıymık, a faculty member at HKU’s Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, will serve as the project coordinator, while Dr Ali Emre Öztürk, from the same department, will serve as a project researcher. The project aims to provide young goalkeepers in Gaziantep with access to a more effective and measurable training process.

HKU Rector Prof. Dr Gül Rengin Küçükerdoğan stated that the project was an important example of the University’s research-, technology- and social contribution-oriented approach, and said: “As Hasan Kalyoncu University, we use scientific knowledge and technology not only to produce academic outputs, but also to transform them into innovative applications that provide solutions to the needs of society. This project, which will support the development of our young athletes through artificial intelligence and image-processing technologies, is also highly valuable in terms of bringing our University’s expertise in engineering into the field. Through our collaboration with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, we aim to ensure that the technology we develop finds practical application in a real sporting environment and contributes directly to the development of our young goalkeepers.”
